The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (4)

Superheroes are the selfless champions of the weak and downtrodden. One of genre's popular tropes is that the heroes are in the same financial straits as those they protect. However, there are many Marvel and DC heroes who are rather wealthy. They use that money both to fund their acts of heroism and to help the poor in more tangible ways.

Some wealthy superheroes were born rich, whether as heirs to a business fortune or as monarchs of a kingdom. Others make their money through their business savvy and incredible abilities. In the end, all the wealthy heroes share a common trait: they fight evil and protect the innocent.

Updated on May 20th, 2024 by David Harth: Wealth and superheroes have been intertwined for decades. Not every superhero has money, but it definitely helps the one who do. They've used that wealth to supplement their missions against evil, and some of them are wealthier than others. The wealthiest superheroes have used their money to make the world a better place.

30 Wolverine Made His Money Being The Best There Is At What He Does

Estimated Wealth:

$1,000,000 to $10,000,000

50 Years Of Wolverine: Why He’s The Best There Is At What He Does

It's easy to celebrate 50 years of Wolverine given the fact that the ol' Canucklehead has grown and evolved in ways most characters can only dream.

Wolverine has lived a long time and has been a part of some lucrative endeavors. Born into wealth as James Howlett, he wasn't able to inherit the money and spent years working in lumber camps before taking up being a professional soldier. There's not much money in being a soldier, but Wolverine would soon take up even more lucrative work.

  • Decades Of Savings
  • Mercenary
  • SHIELD Agent
  • Avenger
  • Teacher/Headmaster

Wolverine worked as a mercenary and spy for years. He made loads of money, enough where he could always afford to do whatever he wanted and could own an expensive motorcycle despite constantly getting it blown up. As a superhero, Wolverine didn't have to pay any bills with the X-Men and was paid as a teacher/headmaster. Finally, his Avengers stipends added to his savings. Wolverine may not seem like it, but he's actually rather rich.

29 Daredevil's Law Practice And Manhattan Property Puts Him In The One Percent

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (6)

Estimated Wealth:

Over $4,000,000

Daredevil has a long history as a vigilante. Matt Murdock grew up poor in Hell's Kitchen, his prize fighter father working as hard as he could to make sure his son was taken care of. He made good on his father's devotion, going to law school, and becoming a New York City defense attorney. Matt and his friend Foggy Nelson started their own firm, and while they certainly took on pro bono work, that doesn't change how much money there was to be made.

  • Defense Attorney
  • Co-Owner Of Murdock And Nelson Law Firm
  • Owns His Own Building In Hell's Kitchen

Daredevil isn't hyper rich, his net worth not reaching that of Tony Stark's for example, but he's still a millionaire. Murdock And Nelson is always profitable, and it afforded Daredevil the money to buy his own building in Hell's Kitchen. While it's not exactly a rich neighborhood, real estate in New York City is extremely expensive. Daredevil's assets, both cash and real estate, make him rather rich.

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (7)

Estimated Wealth:

Around $5,000,000 in 1985 dollars

Watchmen opens with the investigation of the murder of the Comedian. Readers get to see his apartment, a large, well-furnished space high up in a Manhattan skyscraper. This was certainly a change from the early days of Edward Blake's life. The Watchmen Universe has a lot of very wealthy superheroes - money took the place of superpowers in this universe - but there was never any indication that the Comedian was born into wealth.

  • Owned a very nicely appointed and large apartment in Manhattan
  • Worked as an assassin/government agent at the highest levels for decades

The Comedian eventually started working for the US government, and he was definitely well-paid. There's no way he was doing the Nixon Administration's dirty work and wasn't being very well-paid. He definitely wasn't massively wealthy or anything like that, but his wealth almost certainly was in the five million dollar range before inflation.

27 Doctor Strange Definitely Made A Lot Of Money During His Surgeon Days

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (8)

Estimated Wealth:

$5,000,000 to $10,000,000 in cash and assets, up to a $100,000,000 if his mystical artifacts are counted towards his worth

Doctor Stephen Strange was one of the world's foremost surgeons before an accident destroyed his hands. Strange then took on his second career as Sorcerer Supreme, something that wouldn't have been possible without his years as one of the greatest surgeons on the planet. Strange had made enough money to not have to worry about work, traveling the world in order to find a way to allow himself use of his hands again.

  • Owns his house in Greenwich Village
  • The home is filled with priceless artifacts

Doctor Strange definitely has millions of dollars socked away somewhere, in cash and investments, in order to fund his lifestyle of study and saving the universe. On top of that, his home is filled with mystical artifacts that would grab a pretty penny on the market. Doctor Strange is definitely a wealthier superhero than he seems.

26 Nite-Owl II Came From A Wealthy Family

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (9)

Estimated Wealth:

$5,000,000 to $10,000,000 in 1985 dollars

Watchmen introduced readers to several wealthy characters, including Nite-Owl II. Nite-Owl II was based on Blue Beetle from Charlton Comics, so he was not only a genius who created his own weapons and gadgets, but also was independently wealthy. Dan Dreiberg's father was a banker, which meant that Dan inherited a sizable sum of money, enough to build his own technology and own a home in New York City without ever actually working.

  • Owns a several story home in New York City
  • Archimedes, his owl ship, is full of high technology and worth a pretty penny

Nite-Owl II isn't obscenely wealthy by any means, but he's definitely a millionaire. While Watchmen doesn't really get into any specifics on just how wealthy he is or how he makes his money, just looking at his lifestyle it's plain to see that he's got money. Watchmen took place in 1985, and inflation has basically doubled his worth. So, in 1985 dollars, he was probably worth five to ten million, so now that same amout would be ten to twenty million.

25 Vixen's Modeling Jobs Have Made Her A Very Rich Woman

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (10)

Estimated Wealth:

<$150,000,000

Mari McCabe inherited the Tantu Totem, giving her the ability to take on the attributes of any animal. This allowed her to become a superhero, and Vixen joined the Justice League, becoming one of the most popular people in the world. However, even before donning the costume of Vixen, Mari was famous. She had moved to New York City and became a supermodel, one who was in demand for several years, netting her millions of dollars. She remained a supermodel even after becoming a superhero, commanding an even higher fee.

  • Vixen is in the upper echelons of the modeling industry and makes obscene money
  • She runs multiple charitable organizations for the poor of the African continent
  • Owns multiple businesses

Vixen also believes in giving back to the world around her. Vixen has used her wealth to run aid organizations all over Africa, as well as investing her money in businesses to help lift people out of poverty. Vixen believes in doing the right thing, whether it be with her fists or her fortune.

24 Captain Avalon Is Old British Money

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (11)

Estimated Wealth:

<$150,000,000

Captain Avalon is part of the Braddock family. Brian is the middle child, with Jamie being the oldest and Elizabeth being the youngest. His place as the middle child would have usually meant that the lion's share of the inheritance went to Jamie, but Jamie's reality altering powers drove him insane, taking him out of the running. Brian inherited just about everything, including the estate in England.

  • Inherited wealth
  • British country estate

The former Captain Britain also was a member of the Hellfire Club, which proves his amazing wealth. Brian Braddock was always a humble sort, never really making that big a deal of his massive wealth. He funded Excalibur back in its early days and owned the team's lighthouse, putting his money to very good use.

23 Silver Sable Led A Country And Is Head Of A Successful Mercenary Group

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (12)

Estimated Wealth:

>$200 Million

Upon his death, Silver Sable took over the Wild Pack, and eventually parlayed that into her own private military company, Silver Sable International.

  • Leader Of The Wild Pack
  • Founder/Owner Of Silver Sable International
  • Former Leader Of Symkaria

For a time, Silver Sable was the leader of the European nation of Symkaria, using it as a base of operations for both the Wild Pack and her business. A successful revolt kicked her out of the country, and she lost much of her previous wealth. However, wars never end, so Sable's been able to re-make much of her old fortune.

21 Power Girl Made A Fortune With Her Business

Estimated Wealth:

$1 Billion

Power Girl's a legacy hero, but her wealth came completely from herself. In the post-Crisis continuity, it was established that Karen Starr owned her own computer company, putting her brains to work for her. Known for being a powerhouse in the Justice League and Justice Society, Power Girl was also an intelligent young woman who parlayed that into a successful computer company.

  • Runs Her Own Computer Company

This was picked back up in the New 52 Earth-2, where Power Girl's computer company had ties with Mister Terrific's Holt Industries. Power Girl's wealth doesn't really come into play very much, as she doesn't really need the money for fighting crime, but her computer skills have.

20 Ozymandias Parlayed His Family Fortune Into An Empire

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (16)

Estimated Wealth:

Over a $1,000,000,000

Adrian Veidt hit the genetic lottery in basically every way. He was a tall, good-looking young man from a rich family. Upon his parents' death he inherited a lot of money and left on a journey of self-discovery. He went out and trained his body and mind as close to perfection as he could, and became Ozymandias. He lived off the money from that for years and retired before the Keene Act was passed, beginning Veidt Enterprises.

  • The Veidt family had money, giving Ozymandias a leg up
  • Founded Veidt Enterprises
  • Made a fortune off his own licensing rights, as well as many consumer products

Ozymandias' hero/villain status is debated to this day, but one thing that isn't is his wealth. Ozymandias controlled a massive manufacturing/media empire, selling everything from Ozymandias action figures to his patented self-help books things like Nostalgia, a unisex fragrance Veidt Enterprises makes. Ozymandias is definitely a billionaire, but it's hard to know by how much exactly because of inflation rates between 1985 and now. His worth is as low as a billion, but could be upwards of a hundred billion.

$1 Billion

He created his own company, which competed with other tech giants like Wayne Enterprises and Queen Industries, all before he began adventuring as Mister Terrific.

  • Chairman of the Justice Society of America
  • Invented the T-Spheres
  • CEO of Terrific-Tech

Even though the Mister Terrific character first appeared back in 1942, the mantle passed on to Michael Holt in 1997's Spectre (Vol. 3) #54 (by John Ostrander, Tom Mandrake, Carla Feeny, and Todd Klein). The hero gained even more wealth when he ultimately sold his company to focus entirely on his time as Mr. Terrific. He continues to use his resources to fund his various inventions, like the powerful T-Spheres.

18 The Wasp Had Family Wealth And A Successful Career In Fashion

The Wealthiest Superheroes, Ranked (17)

Estimated Wealth:

Over $1 Billion

Wasp first appeared in 1963's Tales to Astonish #44 by Stan Lee, H.E. Huntley, Jack Kirby, Don Heck, and Art Simek. Janet Van Dyne was always one of the richest Avengers, but her fortune paled when compared to teammates like Tony Stark. The Van Dyne family fortune still gave her a leg-up that most heroes didn't have, and her personal wealth continued to grow.

  • Successful fashion brand
  • Van Dyne Design Studio in SoHo, Manhattan
  • Pym Particle-compatible Wasp suit

Wasp's fashion designs made everyone want clothes made by the Avenger, further increasing her wealth. Unlike some other wealthy heroes, her money was never taken from her by an enemy with a grudge or the federal government, allowing her to maintain her status.

Instead, Blue Beetle II had to depend on gadgets, all of which were supplied by Kord Industries, the company he inherited from his father. Kord is a genius, so running the tech company was a snap for him.

  • Runs Kord Industries
  • World-Renowned Inventor

Kord uses his company much like Batman uses Wayne Industries, although the fact his identity isn't much of a secret has made a huge difference. Oliver Queen/Green Arrow is very similar to Bruce Wayne, having debuted just two years later in More Fun Comics #73's "Case of the Namesake Murders" by Mort Weisinger and George Papp. However, Queen's billionaire playboy image is real and not a cultivated ruse designed to hide his secret identity. • Reed got a good start with family money

  • Tony Stark added to his fortune with everything from arms production to consumer electronics
  • Iron Man has been able to rebuild his fortune from scratch many times over the years, showing just how great a businessman and inventor he is
