The PA Lottery also remains committed tosupporting responsible gamingand “the state and national councils on problem gambling.” Along with providing an array of tools to promote responsible play including cool-off periods, limits, self-exclusion and help programs, the lottery maintains compliance and certification with the NCPG’s iCAP assessment program.

iLottery

Although scratch offs have been a part of lottery systems in the US for decades, online lottery games are still a new feature across the country. The PA Lottery’s first scratch off, or “instant,” games were introduced in May 1975. Over forty years would pass before the state launched its online lottery platform,the PA iLottery, in May 2018. The Michigan online lottery platform also launched in the same time frame and is a much better product offering compared to PA.

While that may seem late, Pennsylvania was actually only the seventh state to implement an online lottery when iLottery launched in 2018, and there have been only a handful of other states to join the online lottery business since then.

During the fiscal year when iLottery was introduced, the PA Lottery’s total game sales hit a new record at over$4.2 billion, and over$1 billionwas given to programs benefiting older Pennsylvanians.
