How to Make

Ingredients

  • Peaches — Make sure you get plump, juicy, and fresh ripe peaches. I don’t recommend canned or frozen peaches for peach salsa. Canned peaches usually have a coating of syrup that adds unnecessary sweetness to the peach salsa. Remove the pitand give them a rough chop to prep them. Got extra peaches left? • Red onions — I love the pop of colour that red onions give the salsa. It also adds a nice crispy texture to the salsa.
  • Bell pepper — I recommend using red bell peppers as they’re the sweetest. Orange and yellow bell pepper is great as well but I would not recommend using green bell pepper.
  • Jalapenos — Always make sure to remove the seeds! The jalapenos add a nice spicy kick to the salsa that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the peaches.
  • Lime juice — Use fresh lime juice! It tastes much brighter and flavourful than bottled lime juice. You can also use cidervinegar.
  • Cilantro — I like adding cilantro to my salsa but if you’re not a fan of cilantro, feel free to skip it entirely.
  • Salt and pepper — It’s optional but I recommend adding a pinch!

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, add all the ingredients and toss well to combine.
  • Serve this fresh fruit salsa immediately or keep it in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving.

Recipe Tips

  • Make sure you dice everything finely. This way, if you’re serving them with some chips, you’ll be able to scoop a little bit of everything with every chip!
  • If you find red onions to be too sharp, you can soak the cut red onions for around 15 minutes in cold water before adding them to the salsa. This mellows out the sharpness in the red onions and as a bonus, makes the onions more crisp.
  • To make the lime easier to juice, bring the lime to room temperature and roll it on the counter. This loosens up the juices in the lime.
  • When cutting the jalapenos, be careful as the spiciness lingers on your hands.
  • Look for peaches that aren’t too hard or too soft. Also, make sure the peaches do not have any blemishes on the skin as that usually indicates bruising.
  • Don’t skip the lime juice as it also helps keep the peaches from oxidizing quickly.
  • Store your peaches on the counter and then transfer them into the fridge once they have ripened.
  • Letting the salsa chill for at least 30 minutes in the fridge will allow the flavour to meld together.
  • For a stronger citrus flavour, you can zest the lime and mix it into the peach salsa. Make sure to only zest the green parts and not the white bits as that’s bitter.
  • The more local your peaches, the sweeter they tend to be!
  • A food chopper will help you quickly and easily chop the ingredients uniformly. Definitely use a food chopper if you have one!

Recipe variations and Substitute

  • For extra added sweetness and to bulk up the peach salsa, you can add some diced cherry tomatoes to the salsa.
  • For a spicier peach salsa, use serrano or habanero pepper instead of jalapenos pepper.
  • For more tropical flavours, try adding some diced pineapple, strawberries or mango to the salsa.
  • For a little extra saltiness, add some crumbled feta or goat cheese.
  • To make this salsa a little more creamy, add some diced avocado.
  • If you’re a fan of garlic, you can grate a clove or two of garlic into the salsa.
  • If you do not have red onions, you can use shallots instead.
  • Enjoy a batch of peach salsa with tortillas.

Do I have to peel the peaches?

You can peel the peaches, but if you don’t mind the skin, you can leave it on. It’s up to you! It’s a matter of personal preference. The more ripe the peaches the easier they are to peel.

Make ahead tips

You can make this peach salsa 3 to 4 days in advance. Simply keep the salsa in the fridge in an airtight container with a lid. If there’s extra liquid on the bottom of the container from the peaches, you can just drain it.

I do not recommend freezing peach salsa as it will change the texture and consistency of your salsa. It’s best to enjoy the salsa as soon as possible.

Did you really mean 1/2 CUP of jalapeño pepper!! That’s way to much, unless they really are jalapeños. Did you mean 1/2 of ONE jalapeño instead?
