My husband took these into to work to share with his coworkers and they got rave reviews! The Creme De Menthe that I had was actually clear, so I added green food coloring to the filling. They are time consuming, but not very difficult. The brownies came together beautifully!

  4. Paula Deen's Creme De Menthe Brownies Recipe - Food.com (21)

Delicious, rich, moist, dense brownie! A little time-consuming only because you have to allow cooling time between each of the steps...otherwise a very easy recipe. I think this is very festive looking for the Christmas holidays as well as St. Patty's Day.

  5. Paula Deen's Creme De Menthe Brownies Recipe - Food.com (22)

Quite possibly the best brownie I have ever had! So So So GOOD!!!!! The brownie just melts in your mouth it is so moist! The filling tastes like one of those after dinner butter mints. I used clear creme de menthe and then I added 2 drops of green food coloring to get the color of one of those pastel after dinner mints. For St. Patrick's Day I will probably add more food coloring and make the filling a little more green. Wonderful recipe, thanks so much for posting!!!

FAQs

What can I add to brownies to make them better? ›

For an easy boost to your boxed brownie mix, sprinkle in about a half cup of add-ins to give brownie batter a personal touch. Although nuts, chocolate and peanut butter chips, and mini marshmallows are easy wins here, this method invites creativity, and the options are truly limitless.

Do you use baking powder or soda for brownies? ›

In the absence of chocolate in the recipe, baking powder would be the better option to use in making brownies with only cocoa powder. Baking powder is a leavening agent that contains both an acid (such as cream of tartar) and a base (such as baking soda), which react together to create carbon dioxide gas.

Why are they called blonde brownies? ›

They're called blondies because they lack the brown cocoa powder of brownies. They're blonde with vanilla and brown sugar, not brown.

What is a Little Debbie brownie? ›

Covered in delicious fudge icing, chewy Little Debbie® Cosmic Brownies feature a sprinkling of rainbow-colored, candy-coated chocolate chips for a surprise crunch and an all-out chocolate experience you'll love. So unwrap a dessert that will never go out of style, and enjoy a special treat that's out of this world!

What does adding milk instead of water do to brownies? ›

One change is to use milk or heavy cream instead of water. This change will make brownies more moist and gooey since milk is more fatty and flavorful than water. A second change is to use butter instead of oil. For similar reasons to using milk, butter adds a rich and more decadent quality to the batter.

How to jazz up boxed brownies? ›

Add nuts – Add a handful of finely chopped pecans or walnuts if you love brownies with nuts. Add mix ins – Jazz up a basic brownie mix with chopped mini peanut butter cups, white chocolate chunks, or your favorite chopped up candy bar. Add a swirl – Swirl in spoonfuls of peanut butter or Nutella before baking.

Is it better to use cocoa powder or chocolate in brownies? ›

As compared to those made with just chocolate or a combination of the two, cocoa brownies are reliably superior in terms of texture and flavor.

What makes brownies fudgy vs cakey? ›

Fudgy brownies have a higher fat-to-flour ratio than cakey ones. So add more fat—in this case, butter and chocolate. A cakey batch has more flour and relies on baking powder for leavening. The amount of sugar and eggs does not change whether you're going fudgy or cakey.

What happens if you put too much baking powder in brownies? ›

The brownies may also collapse in the center or become overly fluffy. Bitter taste: Baking powder contains a small amount of alkaline, which can react with cocoa powder in the brownie batter and create a bitter taste. This can be especially noticeable if too much baking powder is added.

What does adding an extra egg to brownie mix do? ›

They give brownies a lighter, drier, and more cake-like texture. If you prefer this over the chewy variety, then go ahead and crack in that additional egg. On the other hand, too many eggs will yield brownies that are hard, heavy, and tough.

Is Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker better for brownie mix? ›

If you like chewy, sticky brownies, I recommend: Betty Crocker Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix. If you like light, less dense brownies with a picture-perfect sugar top that flakes when sliced, I recommend: Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix.

Should you chill brownie mix before baking? ›

Recently, as I was reading through the comments on all our brownie recipes, one suggestion in particular stood out: Refrigerate the batter overnight for a richer, chewier brownie.

Why are brownie fairies called brownies? ›

They received their name from the fact that they are usually described as brown-skinned and completely covered in hair. In the earliest traditions, brownies are either the same size as humans or sometimes larger, but, in later accounts, they are described as "small, wizened, and shaggy".

What did Katherine Hepburn like to eat? ›

Red meat, big salads, tea, butterscotch pudding, ice cream, meatloaf, homemade cookies… those were some of Katharine Hepburn's most favorite foods.

What is in brownies on the moon? ›

Description. The most delicious brownies are combined with premium high-quality chocolate cream and vanilla ice cream to give you an experience that is out of this world!

Is a brownie an elf or a fairy? ›

Brownies are not fairies, nor are they pixies. They are not goblins, or dwarfs, or Leprechauns and definitely not elves. The most modern categorization has been they are “household spirits.” Brownies work alone, live alone and adore solitude, whereas the other figments all live in groups.
