When you hear the lovely title Love is in the Air, thoughts of sweeping romance and breathtaking scenery immediately come to mind. Unfortunately, these components were noticeably missing from the beginning of the movie. Even though the characters’ introduction emphasizes their divergent personalities, it follows a well-worn path where opposites are attracted to one another. They participate in the anticipated push-pull dance as lovers caught up in Cupid’s whims before, very literally, soaring off into the sunset as one. Unfortunately, the main romance between William and Dana lacks the vivid spark that could have really lit it ablaze.

The film seemed to rush towards its conclusion, leaving little room for me to grasp when the characters’ love actually blossomed truly. Was it during her deliveries? I suppose not. To truly convey a love story, the emphasis should be on the gradual growth of affection between the characters, rather than dwelling on the protagonist’s commendable delivery work. What lingers in my memory are just two fleeting instances where their mutual attraction was palpable. The chemistry between them was so subdued that even in their proximity, the scene failed to evoke a sense of romance.

The one bright spot in all of this was the acceptance of the importance of a solid alliance that was not necessarily founded on romantic love. To lead the Airways’ rehabilitation, Dena needed a partner, and William was the one who made her idea a reality. Their friendship had the potential to develop into something far deeper.

Dena’s attention wasn’t primarily on her love life, which increased the possibility that she would fall in love with the first person she clicked with, which is exactly what happened. Similarly, William’s father had carefully crafted a safe atmosphere for him to grow up in, so when he saw people enjoying life, he took the chance. This young man longed for escape, and with Dena’s help, he succeeded in doing just that.

The screenplay is also incredibly obvious, setting up every major plot point so far in advance that it is easy to predict it. Additionally, everyone and everything in it feels incredibly fake and forced, as if it were beaming in from a bizarre synthetic world of fake human emotions and Hallmark sentiment.

Love is in the Air Review: Final Thoughts

Love is in the Air may have carried a promising title, but it fell short of delivering the sweeping romance and breathtaking moments one might have anticipated. The characters, though introduced with distinct personalities, followed a predictable path of opposites attracting. While the film rushed towards its conclusion, leaving little room for the genuine development of love, it did manage to highlight the importance of a solid alliance beyond romantic entanglements.

Dena and William’s partnership, rooted in a shared goal, held the potential for a deeper connection. However, the movie’s shortcomings lay in its subdued chemistry and overtly obvious plot points, creating a sense of artificiality that detracted from the emotional resonance it aimed to achieve. Ultimately, Love is in the Air left a lingering sense of missed opportunity, with the potential for a more captivating love story untapped.
