    FAQs

Why do they give celery with buffalo wings? ›

With its high water content and crisp texture, celery is a perfect contrast to the salt and fat of the wings. It provides a crunchy, somewhat hydrating break, particularly when your consumption gets into the dozens.

Why are carrots and celery served with Buffalo wings? ›

Anyway, most people, after a couple of wings, want something to cool their mouth off, and bland, cold, juicy raw veggie sticks are perfect. They clear your palate and leave you ready to tackle the next few delicious mouth-searing wings. Buffalo wings and carrot/celery sticks: it's a perfect match.

Why do people put celery in chicken? ›

Roasting it locks in the flavors, and is anything but boring. The most versatile way for roast chicken that you're using in other recipes is to simply stuff the cavity with celery. The chicken does not come out tasting like celery, but the celery provides plenty of moisture to keep it nice and juicy.

Who started celery with wings? ›

By now, everyone who has ever nibbled on chicken wings prepared in a particular style knows their origin story: in 1964, at the Anchor Bar, Teressa Bellissimo cut some wings in half, deep fried them, tossed them in hot sauce, and served them at the bar with celery sticks and blue cheese dressing.

Does celery take away spiciness? ›

Adding more ingredients to your food or sauce can help to dilute the spiciness as well. If you've made a spicy chili, for example, try adding some extra beans or vegetables such as diced carrots, zucchini, and celery.

Why do they serve veggies with wings? ›

Some top chefs like Dale Talde have some theories. “Celery is a desperate cry to break the sale, spice, and fat of pounding 25 to 30 wings for a football game. The cool, refreshing texture and slightly bitter flavor is what you want when you eat wings.”

Is celery good with hot sauce? ›

Celery. Perhaps you're someone who loves eating snacks that have a distinct crunch. Celery with hot sauce might not be a snack you'd think of right away, but when you try it, you'll understand why it goes together. Either drizzle the hot sauce on top or mix it in with your favorite ranch for a spicy ranch condiment.
